SMART CLARK GIGA CITY—Rain or Shine veteran Beau Belga knows how much of an escape the Philippine Basketball Association provides for the Filipino people in these trying times.
And he’s bent on contributing to that not just by playing his heart out each night in the bubble for the Elasto Painters in the Philippine Cup.
Belga, the Painters’ three-point chucking burly big man, is donning different hairstyles in each of his team’s games.
“I just feel that I could add to the joy of the people,” he told reporters here in Filipino. “You know, giving them something to talk about.”
Belga gets his hair done by a pal who also belongs to the television broadcast crew covering the compressed conference, and it takes less than half an hour to set up a new hairdo. He gets it done as soon as he arrives at Angeles University Foundation (AUF) powered by Smart 5G, the venue of the games.
“It takes around 15 to 20 minutes,” he said. “As soon as I get to AUF, I’m calling Joanne [Natural]. She does it before I get geared up. After each game, I tend to plan about it [for the next game] then just send her my ideas.”
Belga’s hairdo, aside from his custom sneakers, has been the talk on social media this conference.
His twirled pigtails during Rain or Shine’s bubble debut against San Miguel Beer early into the conference even made Twitter’s trending topics.
“We’re all stressed with the pandemic already so I figured, why not ease that?” Belga said. “These are different times.”
And Belga comes out with a different look every time. INQ
