Gilas Pilipinas clobbers Thailand in Fiba Bahrain qualifiers
Gilas Pilipinas overwhelmed Thailand, 93-61, in the Fiba Asia Cup Qualifiers at Khalifa Sports City in Manama, Bahrain late Friday (Manila time).
The young Philippine squad made up of collegiate standout had no problems against an all-pro Thai side, quickly breaking the game wide open in the second quarter and leading by as much as 36 points.
Dwight Ramos topscored for the Filipinos with 20 points on perfect shooting from the field along with seven rebounds and three assists. Juan Gomez de Liano and Justine Baltazar added 12 markers each.
Thailand, which played without its star Tyler Lamb, was outplayed in all aspects by the Philippines, except for second chance points (13-9).
The two squads play again on Monday.
