Fiba unveils logo for Basketball World Cup 2023

MANILA, Philippines—Fiba, the world’s governing body for basketball, unveiled the logo for the coming 2023 Fiba Basketball World Cup to be hosted by three Asian countries including the Philippines.

Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines will serve as hosts for the tournament that will run from August 25 to September 10 in 2023. It will be the first time that three countries will be the home of the competition.

Fiba incorporated three elements into the logo: a heart, the Naismith Trophy, and the 2023.

According to Fiba, the sideways heart symbolizes the passion for the game, the Naismith Trophy is the dream of the competing nations, and the “23” is the year that will shine on the host countries.

“We Filipinos are all proud to be a part of this important milestone in basketball, together with Japan and Indonesia,” said Manny V. Pangilinan, chairman emeritus of Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas in a statement.

“The Philippines look forward to extending our brand of hospitality to the participating teams, to the world congress delegates, and to the many visitors expected to come – true to the essence of the logo we are launching today – a heart, the puso of the Filipino,” added Pangilinan.

Fiba Secretary General Andreas Zagklis described the 2023 logo as the symbol for the governing body’s passion for the sport.

“This is a very exciting milestone. The distinctive FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 logo symbolizes our love for the game, which is shared by the organizing committees and FIBA, and it also represents the vision and passion of the event that brings together, for the first time, three host countries,” said Zagklis.
