Rene Catalan, Jomary Torres fall in ONE: Big Bang

MANILA, Philippines—It was a disappointing night for the Catalan Fighting System as both Rene Catalan and Jomary Torres fell to their respective opponents in ONE Championship: Big Bang Friday at Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Catalan, the no.3-ranked strawweight, suffered a devastating knockout loss to unranked Bokang Masanyune 37 seconds into the first round.

Masanyune was quick to launch into his offense landing a brutal knee then followed it up with a roundhouse kick straight to the face of the 41-year-old Catalan.

“I’ve been working on my standup game and I’ve been working a lot on my striking and mixing it with a lot of my wrestling,” said Masanyune who improved to 8-0 and chalked up his first knockout win in his career.

In the card’s opening fight, Jomary Torres fell to Ritu Phogat via technical knockout in the first round.

Phogat scored an early takedown and maintained that position until the end of the fight as she constantly landed her hooks and elbows from the top.

Transitioning from side control to crucifix, Phogat then landed several elbows to the face of Torres prompting referee Justin Brown to stop the contest at 3:55 into the first round.
