Johnson to challenge Moraes for ONE flyweight title

MANILA, Philippines—Demetrious Johnson will have his first title bout in ONE Championship nearly two years since his debut with the promotion.

ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong on Friday announced that Johnson will challenge Adriano Moraes for the ONE flyweight World title on February 24, 2021 in Singapore.

“ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix Champion Demetrious Johnson will challenge ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano Moraes for all of the marbles on February 24, 2021 in Singapore,” posted Sityodtong.

Johnson (30-3) debuted in the Singapore-based promotion on March 31, 2019 submitting Yuya Wakamatsu in the second round of their bout in Japan.

Since then, he’s racked up three straight wins and defeated Danny Kingad in the Flyweight Grand Prix in October 2019.

Johnson, regarded as one of the greatest fighters of all time, is tied with Anderson Silva for most consecutive title defenses in the UFC with 10.

After his success in the UFC, he was traded to ONE Championship for Ben Askren.

Moraes (18-3), meanwhile, is coming off a decision win over Geje Eustaquio on January 25, 2019 when he successfully defended his title.
