Warriors’ Steph Curry says extension talks ‘on the table’

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry said discussions about a contract extension are “on the table.”
The two-time Most Valuable Player and three-time NBA champion is eligible for a three-year, $156 million max extension that would start in 2022-23 and pay him $48 million in the first year, $52 million in the second and $56 million in the third, according to ESPN.
“We have conversations,” Curry told reporters Monday. “Everything’s on the table right now. Everything I’ve talked about, about being a Warrior and what the future holds. Obviously (I’m) fully committed on what that is. And understanding I’ve got to do what’s right for me and the team and having those conversations.
“I feel blessed to be in that position where I can say that and truly believe that, so it’s a matter of just letting things play out the way they should and that’s kind of where we’re at right now.”
Curry, 32, signed a five-year, $201 million supermax extension in July 2017.
The two sides have until Dec. 21 to get a deal done before the 2020-21 season gets underway.
Curry was limited to five games in 2019-20 due to a broken left hand that required surgery.
The six-time All-Star has averaged 23.5 points, 6.6 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 699 games since Golden State drafted him seventh overall in 2009. He ranks third on the all-time list with 2,495 made 3-pointers, trailing only Hall of Fame members Ray Allen (2,973) and Reggie Miller (2,560).
Curry said he is hopeful he can finish his career with the Warriors.
“That’s a huge goal for sure,” Curry said. “It’s an elite club of guys that you look at that have played with the same organization and been successful and achieved greatness in that respect. So that would be an awesome accomplishment.”
He also said he hopes to play as long as his father, Dell Curry, did. The elder Curry spent 16 seasons in the NBA from 1986 to 2002.
“I’ve always put 16 years because my dad played 16 years in the league and that was always the goal,” Curry said. “So now it’s just more so listen to your body and who knows? You can’t predict the future, but I’ve always said I want to play for as long as I can play at the level that I want to be at and hopefully you can be in that position where you end it on your own terms.”
