MANILA, Philippines—The NBA G League is set to play its 2021 season at Walt Disney World Complex in Orlando Florida to maintain a confined environment amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
G League’s bubble will be held inside the same complex where the NBA held the remained of its 2019-202 season where the Los Angeles Lakers emerged as champions.
In a report from The Athletic, the season is set to start on February 8 with Team Ignite among the 18 teams that will play in the bubble.
There are, however, 11 teams that would not be going to the bubble.
The bubble setup could jeopardize Kai Sotto’s planned participation for the February window of the 2021 Fiba Asia Cup Qualifiers.
Although the Asia Cup Qualifiers will also be held in a bubble in Clark—where stringent measures are also expected—the NBA has put up strict protocols for anyone leaving its environment.
Those who will leave and return to the Orlando bubble will be subjected to a mandatory quarantine period before they get to join their teammates in general population.
Ignite is comprised of prep-to-pros stars including Jalen Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Isaiah Todd, Daishen Nix, Princepal Singh, and Sotto along with other veterans, set up as an alternative for collegiate basketball for aspiring NBA players.
