MANILA, Philippines — Alfrancis Chua, team governor of Barangay Ginebra, plans to sit down with Greg Slaughter this month to discuss the veteran center’s future with the Gin Kings.

The expected meeting between Chua and Slaughter comes just days after the four-time PBA champion issued an apology to the Ginebra management for his sudden departure from the team last February.

“He was saying sorry to the management and then to the Barangay and perhaps to his teammates,” Chua said in Filipino during an appearance on “The Chasedown” recently.

“As I said, he’s not a kid, he’s already old and he has a reason why he did that. We just have to respect him because that’s his choice and right now he’s asking for forgiveness.”

In a social media post, Slaughter apologized to San Miguel Corporation president Ramon S. Ang and Chua for “any misunderstanding or bad feelings” following his decision to take a sabbatical shortly after the Gin Kings won the 2019 Governors’ Cup title.

Slaughter left for the United States to train after his contract with Ginebra had expired. He returned to Manila last October.

“We’ll talk next week,” Chua said. “We just have to listen to their reasons and if we can understand it, we’ll understand it. I guess the situation was hard [for him] because of the pandemic.”
