ICTSI golf: Tabuena, Dumandan favorites

TRECE Martirez, Cavite—All eyes will be on Miguel Tabuena and Marvin Dumandan when the P2.5 million ICTSI Sherwood Hills Challenge tees off here today.

Tabuena and Dumandan won the first two legs of the circuit and are just two of the fancied bets in the 80-strong field even as a slew of other big guns try to claim the P450,000 champion’s purse.

This leg will be the first of five 72-hole events in the Pilipinas Golf Tournaments Inc. calendar this year, hence the bigger purse.

Frankie Miñoza, the two-time Philippine Open champion whose last triumph on local soil happened at Wack Wack last December, is also entered and is also considered a dangerous customer.

The winds and glass-like greens are Sherwood Hills’ main defenses and scoring could be very low considering the several short holes of the layout that the field can attack.

Antonio Lascuña, the Asian Tour veteran who has never won in this Tour, is also tipped to contend well because of the short holes in the layout.

The event is backed by Nike Golf, Callaway, Titleist, Srixon, Custom Clubmakers, Mizuno and Foot Joy with support from Event Captain Inc., Omnisource Inti’l. TPGAP and media partners Balls, A Round of Golf, Inquirer Golf, Studio 23, Pinoygolfer.com and Impact.
