Top chessers on board for FEU online seminar

The country’s top chessers are on tap as Far Eastern University hosts its monthly online seminars this month.

Olympiad veterans Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales, who heads the organizing Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence, woman GM Janelle Mae Frayna and International Master Paulo Bersamina will be speaking with chess aspirants in the sessions on February 20 and 27.

The seminar is opened to ages 11-17 years old and will tackle the games of the great players from the past as well as the present (8:30-9 am), contributions of Filipino chess heroes (9:45 to 10:45 am) and concepts and principles (11 a.m. to 12:30 pm).

National men’s team coach Eugene Torre, Asia’s first GM, is also scheduled to participate to talk about his journey as well as Woman FIDE Master Michelle Yaon.

The event, which is backed by FEU chairman Aurelio Montinola III and athletic director Mark Molina, will culminate in a mini-tournament, which is exclusively open to attendees of the seminar, on February 28 at 10 am.
