MANiLA, Philippines — The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) issued a stern reminder to Calvin Abueva with regard to his probationary status as part of the reinstatement of his professional license which was revoked during his 16-month suspension from the PBA.

Abueva was recently shipped by Phoenix to Magnolia in a shock trade last week with several Inquirer sources inside the Fuel Masters’ camp saying that temperamental forward slipped back to his old ways.

“Calvin is still under the six-month probation period. Even if he has transferred to a different team, as a professional athlete licensed by GAB, he still needs to honor what has been agreed upon and his commitment to the Board which was the basis of the reinstatement,” said GAB chair Baham Mitra.

“He is a professional athlete and the youth look up to him. We expect him to set an example to the younger generation.”

GAB reached out to Abueva through Magnolia team manager Alvin Patrimonio.

The 33-year-old Abueva was able to complete his mandatory monitoring sessions until December, but “The Beast” failed to do so for the month of January due to “pressing family matters,” as per GAB.

Abueva showed promise in his comeback in the Philippine Cup bubble where he played a significant role in Phoenix’s deep playoff run.

The former national team player even became a candidate for the Best Player of the Conference and Sportsmanship Awards for his play and behavior in the bubble.
