GLOBAL notched a league record eighth straight victory by blanking Pasargad, 4-0, yesterday to move five points clear at the top of the United Football League at the University of Makati.
Filipino-German winger Patrick Reichelt scored twice, while Cameroonian striker Alex Obiang and Izo El-Habbib contributed a goal each as Global jacked up its tally to 30 points.
Later, Stallion roared to back-to-back victories while dealing Air Force Phoenix’s title-retention hopes a heavy blow with a 2-1 win.
Jovanie Simpron struck twice in the first six minutes as undermanned Stallion moved within three points off third-place Kaya with 21 points.
Quickest to react after Ruben Doctora’s effort was blocked, Simpron found the bottom corner in the third minute, before completing a swift counterattack four minutes later to put Stallion comfortably ahead.
Air Force defender Glenn Balaquina pulled a goal back with a header off a corner in the 31st minute, but Stallion sustained its pressing game to keep the defending champions at bay the rest of the way.
The Airmen’s title push now seem a long shot as they trail Global by 18 points with six matches remaining in their schedule.
