Nat’l softball tourney opens

THE 2012 National Softball Championship opens today with foreign teams Indonesia and Brunei part of a formidable 31-team field at the Clark Field in Pampanga.

It will mark the first time that the tournament organized by the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines will have games in both the men and women’s divisions as well as open and club competitions, according to Asaphil president Jean Henri Lhuillier.

“This will be a big boost for Philippine softball,” said Lhuillier.

There will be three foreign teams, two in the women’s side and one in the men’s competition with Filipinos part of their rosters.

Brunei will be represented by Kensei Club.  National player Apol Rosales, Edzel Manuel and Roldan Bacarisas are part of the squad owned by the Princess of Brunei.
