SAN BEDA leaned on a second-half onslaught in a 91-57 drubbing of University of the East yesterday to stay unbeaten in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup.
Unrelenting on both ends of the floor, the Lions unleashed a 21-2 run in the third period to secure their fifth straight victory at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Fil-Am rookie Julius Armon starred in the searing assault with 13 of his 17 points giving the Lions a 62-37 cushion heading into the final period.
Later, Greg Slaughter scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Ateneo held off University of the Philippines, 69-60, for its fourth win in five outings.
The Eagles weathered a third-quarter storm before finally putting away the Maroons, who last threatened at 51-55 after a searing 15-1 run.
“You can’t expect a blowout win against teams in this tournament,” said Sandy Arespacochaga. “It’s not that we’re playing bad, but our opponents should be given credit for playing well.” With reports from Rodolfo Lozada, Randolph Leongson and Jan Edward Ballesteros, Contributors
