MANILA, Philippines — PBA chair Ricky Vargas on Tuesday said the league has approved a 10-month season for this year.

Within the 10-month period, the PBA will play only two conferences—the Philippine Cup, which will run for four months, and the Governors’ Cup, which will take up the remainder of the calendar.

Vargas added that the league is looking to hold its season under a semi-bubble setup in contrast to last year where the PBA resumed the Philippine Cup in a bubble environment in Clark.

“We’re looking forward to a 10-month PBA season,” said Vargas.

“We’re looking good in spite of all the challenges in 2019 and the pandemic in 2020. If we can do this right in 2021 this season 46, we will be able to recover our financial standing if not equal to, a little lower than what we experienced in 2020,” he added.

The PBA has also moved the opening of its 46th season to April 11, two days later than the initial target date.

Pending permission from the Inter-Agency Task Force, the league is hoping to hold its games within the National Capital Region.
