MPBL: Makati reduced to 5 players in North Finals
MANILA, Philippines — The Makati Super Crunch will have to make do with what they have against the San Juan Knights in the deciding Game 3 of the MPBL North Division Finals in Subic.
Makati is facing a tall order heading into the clash, having just five players against an intact San Juan side, which will be heavily favored to win.
According to a source, the other Makati players didn’t enter the bubble in Subic due to issues with the management.
Left to fight for the Super Crunch Wednesday are homegrown players Edwin Asoro, Bhabap Sta. Maria, Carlo Lloren, Kako Morales and pro dunker David Carlos.
“Only five homegrown players are playing, no substitute,” the source, who requested anonymity, said in Filipino.
Makati will also be under a new coach in interim Henry Subido after its former mento Beaujing Acot resigned from his post last January.
Acot, though, still entered the bubble and will play the role of consultant.
“They are going to play their heart out. Hopefully, they’ll find a way to be competitive,” Acot said.
Meanwhile, the other division finals game between Basilan and Davao Occidental have been pushed back to March 17 after two Basilan players tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
