Ancajas gets COVID-19 vaccine ahead of title defense in US
MANILA, Philippines — Filipino boxing champion Jerwin Ancajas has been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Ancajas along with his entire team received a Pfizer jab ahead of the IBF super flyweight champion’s April 10 title defense in the United States.
Article continues after this advertisement“Us, coach Joven have already been vaccinated,” Ancajas bared in Filipino during a recent virtual press conference.
The 29-year-old Panabo, Davao Del Norte native is defending his crown for the ninth time when he meets Jonathan Rodriguez of Mexico (22-1, 16 KOs) at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
The bout had already been pushed back twice. It was re-set from November 2019 to April 2020 but failed to push through due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ancajas (32-1-2, 22 KOs) has been training in the US at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym since October.
