MANILA, Philippines — Filipino boxing champion Jerwin Ancajas has been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Ancajas along with his entire team received a Pfizer jab ahead of the IBF super flyweight champion’s April 10 title defense in the United States.
“Us, coach Joven have already been vaccinated,” Ancajas bared in Filipino during a recent virtual press conference.
The 29-year-old Panabo, Davao Del Norte native is defending his crown for the ninth time when he meets Jonathan Rodriguez of Mexico (22-1, 16 KOs) at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
The bout had already been pushed back twice. It was re-set from November 2019 to April 2020 but failed to push through due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the delays, Ancajas vowed he remains focused for his first fight in over a year.
Ancajas (32-1-2, 22 KOs) has been training in the US at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym since October.
