MP Promotions chief says Pacquiao-Crawford fight ‘nonsense’
MANILA, Philippines—It seems that the supposed fight between Manny Pacquiao and WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford won’t be coming to reality.
MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons said the reported Abu Dhabi fight between the top welterweights is nothing but “nonsense.”
Article continues after this advertisementGibbons said in a message to Inquirer that the fight is another money-making scheme from Top Rank CEO Bob Arum and Pacquiao’s former advisor Mike Koncz.
“[This is] Bob Arum and Mike Koncz nonsense,” said Gibbons Wednesday. “I do not believe that is happening.”
This is not the first time that Gibbons was combative of Arum as he had the same approach back in August 2020 about the same topic.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Pacquiao-Crawford fight has been floated around since 2020 in what is seen as the biggest fight in the 147-pound division.
The Athletic reported that representatives from both Pacquiao and Crawford’s camps have discussed the possibility of a June 5 fight in the capital of the United Arab Emirates but no papers or terms have been signed and agreed upon.
