MANILA, Philippines – Big Chill trumped a pesky Boracay Rum, 72-66, and remained in second place in the 2012 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the San Juan Gym.
Keith Jensen exploded for 17 points and was just as efficient in other departments as he hauled down 15 rebounds, four assists, four steals and a block.
Alex Mallari also finished with 17 points and seven rebounds.
The Superchargers strengthened its hold of the second spot, sharing it with Cebuana Lhuillier, and creating a separation from the other squads with a 5-2 record.
“Every game we place is crucial; it’s good that we won this game,” said coach Robert Sison. “We want the second spot, that’s our goal.”
Big Chill, which has two more games left in the eliminations, created separation in the second half behind Jensen’s efforts, stretching a two point halftime lead to as huge as 14 points.
A basket by Mallari gave the Superchargers a 71-57 advantage with two and half minutes left before fending off the Waves’ last ditch rally.
The Waves, who dropped their third assignment but remain alive in the quarterfinals hunt, slashed down the lead to single digits but it was a little too late.
Toto Bandaying finished with 14 points on a losing cause for Boracay Rum.
