MANILA, Philippines—Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup’s Visayas leg is set to begin on Friday with a double-header immediately scheduled for Alcantara Civic Center in Alcantara in Cebu.
The MJAS Zenith-Talisay City Aquastars and the Tubigon Bohol Mariners will begin the proceedings at 4 pm while KCS Computer Specialist-Mandaue City and the Siquijor Mystics take up the main game mantle at 7 p.m.
As the pandemic has yet to be contained, no fans will be allowed inside the arena but a return to active competition is enough for the players.
“I’m very excited to play since I haven’t done so in more than a year,” said veteran marksman Patrick Cabahug of MJAS Zenith, one of four former PBA players on the squad.
Other PBA players in MJAS Zenith are Paulo Hubalde, Val Acuña, and Lester Alvarez.
As part of its support for regional leagues, Chooks-to-Go partnered with the professional league and will serve as its title sponsor for the inaugural season.
Leading the way for the Mariners are former University of the East standouts Pari Llagas and Mac Montilla, both of whom played in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
KCS head coach Mike Reyes said he now has a better grasp of how his team will fare in the competition after identifying his players’ strengths and weaknesses.
“They understand the pace that we want them to play at as well as our defensive principles,” said Reyes.
