MANILA, Philippines—Eduard Folayang’s trilogy bout against Shinya Aoki ended in bitter defeat, submitting to the Japanese in the first round of their lightweight match in ONE on TNT IV Thursday at Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The Team Lakay senior tapped out to an arm bark 4:20 into the opening round, absorbing his second loss to Aoki and fifth in his last six fights in the promotion.

While the first minute of the fight did not see much action, Aoki was able to secure the top position in the second.

Aoki held the dominant position for the better part of the round and ultimately isolated Folayang’s arm forcing the Filipino to tap.

The Japanese legend is now 2-1 in his personal head-to-head with Folayang with the first two fights between the two both for the ONE World lightweight championship.

Folayang won the first fight via technical knockout for his first reign with the strap in 2016 while the second went to Aoki via submission in 2019.
