Cabrera, Nuyles lead as Adamson routs EAC

MANILA, Philippines — Adamson banked on its hot shooting in the fourth period for a 77-59 dumping of Emilio Aguinaldo College Friday in the Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Cup at the Arena in San Juan.

A triple from Roider Cabrera gave the Falcons their first double digit lead with seven minutes left in the game before Alex Nuyles and Jericho Cruz aided in stretching the gap.

The Falcons notched their second victory in three games but coach Leo Austria recognizes the fact that they’re not the same team which made a run to the final four in the UAAP last season.

“I challenged my players to step up, because we’re not the same team last year. We’re not yet confident, When you look at our line up, our point guards were a big loss,” said Austria.

Adamson lost top guards Lester Alvarez and Jerick Cañada along with reliables Janus Lozada, Jan Colina and import Austen Manyara.

But Nuyles and Cabrera, one of the few holdovers from last year, continued to step up for the Falcons, finishing with 17 and 11 points, respectively.

Eric Camson added nine points and 11 rebounds while newcomer guard Cruz chipped in nine points and four assists.

The Generals, who got a big boost with reinforcement Noube Happi, reeled to their third loss in the tournament.

Behind Happi’s effort of 15 points and 21 boards, EAC managed to stay on top of Adamson in the first three quarters but failed to sustain the effort in the payoff period.
