PNVF chief named secretary of commission that financed Brazilian coach for PH women’s team

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) earned a milestone on Friday even as its predecessor, the Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI), got the refund it had sought.

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) created an empowering commission in an attempt to level the playing field in the international arena and named PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara secretary of the body. The Philippines was among the first lower tier countries that benefited from the commission as the FIVB financed the hiring of Brazilian Olympic coach Jorge Souza de Brito to help the country’s women’s volleyball program.

De Brito is expected to arrive in the country on July 1.

The FIVB, meanwhile, promised to return the $80,000 (roughly P3.8 million) paid by the LVPI five years ago when it assumed the role of the country’s national federation.
