Sterling “Scoot” Henderson, the No. 1-ranked point guard in the Class of 2022, is bypassing college to play for the NBA G League Ignite.

The five-star prospect is ranked as the No. 7 overall player by ESPN.

“I’m so excited the G League created this platform. It is truly the best fit for me,” Henderson said. “Since I was a kid, competing at the highest level in the world has been my main goal.”

Henderson, from Marietta, Ga., is the all-time leading scorer at Kell High School, which lost in the Class 6A Georgia state championship game. He averaged 32 points, seven rebounds and six assists and was named a Sports Illustrated All-American.

He will graduate next week, a year early, and signed with the Ignite for two seasons. He will be eligible for the 2023 NBA Draft.

Also on the Ignite roster is power forward Michael Foster Jr. from Milwaukee. He was the No. 7 overall player on ESPN’s Class of 2021 list.

The Ignite are coached by former NBA player Brian Shaw, who coached the Denver Nuggets for two seasons and was an NBA assistant for 11. The team is based in Walnut Creek, Calif.
