MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala and Oksana Selekhmeteva ended their run in the W25 Platja D’Aro in Spain Saturday night after falling short to Lithuania’s Justina Mikulskyte and Romanian Oana Goergeta Simion, 6-3, 7-5, in the final.
Still, it was a gallant effort for Eala, who turns 16 Sunday, and the 18-year-old Selekhmeteva who yanked the rug from under top seeds Vlada Koval and Sofya Lansera (6-3, 6-2, 12-10) in the quarterfinal.
Eala and Selekmeteva defeated Dutch pair Isabela Haverlag and Suzan Lamens, 6-3, 6-1, in Friday’s semifinals to arrange a final match.
By making the finals compensated for her second-round singles loss to Irene Burillo Escorihuela (6-2, 6-4) on Thursday.
Mikulskyte and Simion eliminated Spains’ Jessica Maneiro and Claudia Ferrer (6-0, 6-2) in the semis Friday.
