Lions score; family affair highlights Filoil today

A SAN BEDA side finding its potent scoring form still ran off with a huge win as the Red Lions dumped University of Perpetual Help, 74-55, yesterday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup.

The Lions stayed perfect in seven games in Group A even with coach Ronnie Magsanoc thinking that more tweaking should be done with his new team.

“Definitely we’re getting better in the defensive end, but hopefully, our offense will pick up soon,” said Magsanoc, who took over just last month.

Meanwhile, NU battles St. Benilde today at the Filoil Flying V Arena in a game that will feature Bulldgos coach Eric Altamirano going up against son Anton, who plays for the Blazers.

“Nakakailang (It’s awkward),” said Altamirano on the prospects of going up against his son. “That’s the only way I can describe it.”

That game tips off at 1:45 p.m., followed by the 3:30 p.m. encounter between Mapua and UP. The last game at 5:45 p.m. will have UST battling La Salle in a game that will have the Teng brothers facing off for the first time.

The siblings were teammates at Xavier during high school but Jeric has since been a vital cog for the Tigers while Jeron is the Archers’ prized recruit this season.

“Sana hindi magbantayan ang dalawa (I hope they won’t be guarding each other),” said dad Alvin Teng, a former PBA superstar.

Adamson had to overcome a sloppy start before repulsing Emilio Aguinaldo College, 77-59, with Alex Nuyles showing the way for the Falcons with 17 points. With reports from Jan Ballesteros and Rodolfo Lozada
