MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Olympic Committee has started the COVID-19 vaccination drive for the national athletes who will compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2021 Hanoi Southeast Asian Games.

Filipino rower Cris Nievarez, who will represent the Philippines in Tokyo, was one of the first athletes to be inoculated with the Sinovac vaccine Friday at Manila Prince Hotel.

Others who got vaccinated were members of the national volleyball and basketball teams, POC staff, and officials.

Medical staff from the Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases were the ones who inoculated national athletes and Paralympic contingent.

Coaches, staff, and sports media also recieved the vaccine.

The organizers of the 2021 Hanoi SEA Games recently enforced a “no vaccine, no participation” policy for the regional competition that will be played from November 21 to December 2.
