Mayweather ‘sad’ Pacquiao still has to fight at his age

MANILA, Philippines — Known for his ostentation, Floyd Mayweather Jr. didn’t hold back in flaunting his wealth following another easy payday when he figured in an exhibition against YouTuber Logan Paul in Miami recently.
Mayweather also grabbed the opportunity to take a shot at his longtime rival Manny Pacquiao.
“I’ve been in this sport for so long, so long and tonight, I was letting people see that I’m able to come out at my age, at 44, and still sell out 30,000 and still do crazy numbers to where I can make Showtime crash,” said Mayweather during a press conference after the event. “I’m truly blessed.”
“When I come and do an exhibition or come out and box and have some fun, I do it because I want to do it, not because I have to do it,” he added. “Whereas, (Manny) Pacquiao at his age, which it’s sad that he has to fight.”

Pacquiao, 42, is scheduled for an August 21 showdown against unbeaten two-belt champion Errol Spence Jr. in Las Vegas.
The official payouts haven’t been announced but the former pound-for-pound king had claimed that his estimated earnings from the eight-round exhibition could range from $50 to 100 million, according to a report.
“I’m financially set and I want to let everybody know this, you’re going to hear so many different stories, ‘Oh, Floyd has to do this.’ No. I’m well off,” Mayweather said.
“Every property that I have is paid for. My jet is paid for. All my cars is paid for. I own billion-dollar buildings. I own so much property and I’m steady investing in different things. I’m investing in the tech world. I made a lot of smart investments.”
Back in 2018, Mayweather reportedly made $9 million when he faced Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in a three-round boxing exhibition in Japan.
Mayweather retired undefeated in August 2017 after beating UFC superstar Conor McGregor for his 50th win.
