MANILA, Philippines—Arellano University clinched its first medal of the year after Stanley Laguio won gold in the speed kicking bantamweight division of the NCAA Season 96 taekwondo tournament Thursday.
Laguio earned an average 6.583 points to beat San Sebastian’s Axi Zerrudo (6.442) and San Beda’s Michael Macario (6.383) as they took the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Zerrudo’s second place finish also put the Stags in the competition’s medal tally.
The Red Jins are atop the medal tally at 1-1-3 (gold-silver-bronze) while College of St. Benilde trails them at second with a 1-0-1 haul.
The men’s speed kicking competition will continue until June 29 with the women’s event happening on June 30 until July 5.
