The new San Miguel Corp. (SMC) Sports Complex, a state-of-the-art facility opened last May for the company’s three formidable PBA squads, is buzzing with activity of late with as many as 800 people getting vaccine shots there every day.
The facility has become the site for thousands of employees, essential workers and extended workforce across the San Miguel Group to get their vaccine doses, as the company continues to do its share to help the country achieve herd immunity at the soonest possible time.
“Vaccinating as many Filipinos as we can is important to reaching herd immunity and getting our economy back up,” said SMC president Ramon Ang. “That is why we have been helping our LGUs (local government units) with their vaccination rollout, in whatever way we can. We have been hiring and deploying medical professionals to LGU vaccination sites.
“We’re also setting up vaccination sites both for the public and our A4 workers. The sports facility is one of the sites for our essential workers.”
None of the three SMC teams in the PBA has yet to use any of the courts in the facility which were done to be at par with international standards.
“We are proud of this facility and we are even prouder now because even if it can’t be used by the teams yet, it is serving a meaningful purpose—protecting lives during the pandemic,” Ang said. INQ
