Marck Espejo hopes for better campaign in second Japan stint
MANILA, Philippines — Armed with more experience, Marck Espejo aims to do better in his second stint in the Japan V.League.
Espejo’s maiden campaign in Japan was short-lived after he wasn’t able to finish the 2018-19 season with Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler due to a shoulder injury.
“I’m very excited again because my dream is to really come back and play in Japan,” the three-time UAAP champion out of Ateneo said in Filipino on sports show The Game.
Although brimming with talent, Espejo said he lacked the experience in his first foray in the V.League.
But times have changed and seeing action in other leagues in Thailand and Bahrain has helped him grow more as a player.
“Of course there’s pressure to do my best. In my first Japan stint, I wasn’t able to experience everything because I did not finish the season because of my shoulder injury,” said Espejo, who assured he will suit up for the Philippines in the Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam in November.
“I think this time is a different journey and they’re going to see a player who’s more mature,” added Espejo, who led the Philippines to a silver medal finish in the 2019 SEA Games in Manila.
