PVL: Army fends off BaliPure for first win

MANILA, Philippines — Black Mamba-Army held off BaliPure, 25-16, 25-27, 25-21, 26-24, for its first win in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference Tuesday night at PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
Royse Tubino fired 19 points while Jovelyn Gonzaga recorded 13 points, 16 digs and 12 excellent receptions for Army.
“Luckily, we won but our game is still far from the kind of performance we want,” said Army head coach Kungfu Reyes in Filipino.
Ging Balse-Pabayo also came up big for the Lady Troopers with nine points capped off by successive hits to clinch the game.
Grace Bombita scored 18 points to pace the Water Defenders, who shot themselves in the foot with 32 errors.
Army redeemed itself after dropping its opening game assignment following a four-set loss to Petro Gazz on Sunday.
