Cignal beats Sta. Lucia, eyes more improvement after first win

MANILA, Philippines — Cignal claimed its first win of the season at the expense of Sta. Lucia, 25-22, 25-18, 13-25, 25-20, in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.

The HD Spikers improved to a 1-1 record for a tie in third with Petro Gazz and Black Mamba-Army while the Lady Realtors dropped to 1-2 for the sixth spot in the standings.

This was Cignal’s fourth straight win over the Lady Realtors since the 2019 Philippine Superliga season wherein the HD Spikers won all three of the meetings.

“I’m proud of how fast the team adjusted because the first day we were supposed to play and it was postponed,” said Cignal head coach Shaq Delos Santos. “I’m hoping that we can still improve because the team is really in a transition process. We just have to work harder.”

Janine Marciano and Roselyn Doria both had 14 points to lead Cignal while May Luna added 10.

MJ Phillips had 20 points to lead Sta. Lucia while Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Jovielyn Prado added 15 and 11 points, respectively.
