The Philippine Basketball Association takes its finest talents to the bustling capital of Ilocos Norte Wednesday for the annual All-Star Weekend.
The match pitting the Rookies-Sophomores-Juniors against the Veterans will be the highlight of the affair on Sunday as the league takes the spectacle to Laoag for the second time in seven years.
Several side events, including the Slam Dunk and Three-Point Shootout, will also be held at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena.
The PBA delegation, led by league chair Mamerto Mondragon of Rain or Shine and commissioner Chito Salud, are expected to be welcomed in Laoag by Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos and city Mayor Michael Fariñas.
Aside from the competitions, several community work has been lined up for the PBA players, part of the league’s program of giving back to its fans ever since the PBA started taking the All-Star Weekend away from Manila.
No. 1 Draft pick JV Casio of Powerade and Marcio Lassiter of Petron will spearhead the RSJ team to be coached by Bo Perasol.
Commissioner’s Cup Finals MVP James Yap of Derby Ace leads the Veterans, which will be handled by Meralco’s Ryan Gregorio after Talk ‘N Text coach Chot Reyes begged off due to a previous commitment.
