MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Tuesday lauded Nesthy Petecio for bringing home the silver medal at the women’s featherweight final at the Tokyo Olympics.

Petecio bowed to Japan’s Sena Irie in the women’s featherweight final.

“We would like to congratulate Nesthy Petecio siya po’y nanalo ng silver ngayon lang po. Ang nanalo po ng ginto ay ang boksingero galing ng Japan. Nonetheless, napakagaling po ng pinakitang lakas at gilas ng ating Nesthy Petecio,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press briefing.

(We would like to congratulate Nesthy Petecio for winning a silver medal just now. The gold medal was brought home by Japan. Nonetheless, the strength and skill shown by our Nesthy Petecio was excellent.)

“Congratulations Nesthy Petecio for the silver in boxing. Ito po ang kauna unahang pagkakataon na nagkaroon tayo ng mga kababaihang boksinger and it was a silver immediately. We are proud of you, Nesthy,” he went on.
