MANILA, Philippines—Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo paid his university in Japan a visit after finishing his campaign in the Tokyo Olympics.
Yulo along with Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion-Norton and Philippine Olympic Committee chief Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino went to Teikyo University and toured the school’s gymnastics facility.
They also honored the university’s chairman president Yoshihito Okinaga for their role in developing Yulo, who recently competed in his first Olympics.
Yulo, who finished fourth in the men’s vault competition, even gave a small rope climbing demonstration for the students.
Yulo transferred to Teikyo to further his gymnastic career and learn under coach Munehiro Kugimiya, who was also a student at the Japanese university.
Kugimiya, who studied sports management, and Yulo first linked up in 2016 with the latter eventually enrolling under the university’s literature program.
After his Olympic performance, Yulo said is he staying behind in Japan where some competitions are lined up for him.
“I won’t go home to the Philippines yet because I still have a competition here next month. I want to redeem myself.”
