MANILA, Philippines — Top seed Creamline rallied past Petro Gazz, 27-29, 25-23, 15-25, 25-17, 16-14, Sunday to close in on a finals berth in the 2021 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at PCV Socio-Civic Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
Tots Carlos flourished down the stretch to help the Cool Smashers outlast the Angels.
Carlos, the former University of the Philippines standout, delivered 23 points built on 22 hits.
It was also business as usual for captain Alyssa Valdez, who just refused to let Creamline lose despite her team falling behind, 2-1, heading into the fourth set.
“We will give the credit to Petro Gazz also they’ve been really doing well, not only with their net defense but also their attacks,” Valdez said in Filipino after scoring a team-best 25 points.
“Tots is very, very aggressive not only in terms of attacking but also inside the court. She has a nice attitude towards everyone. The energy she brings inside and outside the court. Her being named player of the game is well-deserved,” added Valdez, who also commended the play of Jema Galanza.
Galanza tallied 16 points to give the Cool Smashers, who shoot a spot in the finals on Monday, a needed lift.
