UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas took less than an hour to dispose of another powerhouse as the Tigresses surprisingly dumped San Sebastian in straight sets, 25-12, 25-10, 25-21, to stay unbeaten on the final day of the Shakey’s V-League eliminations.
Mary Jean Balse racked up 14 points, including four blocks and three service aces, to power the Tigresses in the match they wrapped up in just 58 minutes on Thursday night at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Tigresses, who impressively converted half of their spike attempts (40-of-81), completed a 4-0 sweep of Group B to match Ateneo’s perfect run in Group A.
“We have a solid team now,” said UST coach Odjie Mamon, who drew 25 markers each from Judy Caballejo and Thai import Kaensing Utaiwan.
The Lady Stags, who only had Thai import Jeng Bualee scoring in double figures, absorbed their first loss in four outings.
UST, Ateneo and San Sebastian lead the quarterfinalists that include Perpetual Help (3-1), Far Eastern University (2-2), National University (1-3), Adamson (2-2) and St. La Salle-Bacolod (1-3). With a report from Jan Edward B. Ballesteros, Contributor
