MANILA, Philippines—University of the Philippines has appointed Goldwyn Monteverde as the new head coach of its men’s basketball program replacing Bo Perasol.

UP Diliman Chancellor Fidel R. Nemenzo made the official announcement as the school also appointed Perasol, who resigned from his previous post in July, as the new UP Men’s Basketball Team Program Director.

“Despite the recent pandemic measures, we have continued with our consultations with the UP community, stakeholders, and supporters of the UP Men’s Basketball Team,” wrote Nemenzo in a statement.

“We also conducted interviews of the applicants as part of the vetting process for the selection of our UPMBT head coach.”

Monteverde, the son of Philippine entertainment icon Lily Monteverde, won high school titles with Chiang Kai Shek, Adamson University, and National University.

He was already rumored to move to UP following the recruitment of Bullpups stars Carl Tamayo, Gerry Abadiano, and Terrence Fortea.

Nemenzo said that Francis Diaz, Dean of the UP College of Human Kinetics, will oversee the transition of the program from Perasol to Monteverde.

Under Perasol, UP made it to the finals in Season 81 and finished in Final 4 in Season 82.
