The Orlando Magic have pulled rookie shooting guard Jalen Suggs from the Las Vegas Summer League after he sustained a thumb sprain against the Boston Celtics.

Suggs was hurt driving to the basket in the second quarter of Thursday’s game, though it wasn’t clear how. An MRI confirmed the extent of the injury.

Suggs, 20, was taken No. 5 overall out of Gonzaga in the 2021 NBA Draft.

In his Summer League debut, Suggs finished with 24 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and a pair of steals in a 91-89 overtime win over the Golden State Warriors last Monday. In three games, he averaged 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

The Magic expect Suggs to be ready for the start of training camp in late September.
