Ateneo hosts inter-school chessfest

THE SEARCH continues for the next Filipino chess master as the Ateneo de Manila University hosts the 9th Dr. Jose P. Leviste Sr. Chess Festival on May 16 at the Ateneo Grade School Cafeteria in Katipunan, Quezon City.

At stake are cash prizes and trophies for the top six finishers in the college, high school and grade school divisions with the division champions taking home P5,000 (college), P4,000 (HS) and P3,000 (GS).

The all-student, non-master active chess tournament is a project of the Ateneo Grade School, High School and Collegiate chess teams under the direction of International Master Idelfonso Datu.

The event is being held in honor of Ateneo alumnus Dr. Jose P. Leviste Sr. (HS 1933, AA 1935).

The defending champions are Nelson Mariano III of University of the East (college), Paulo Cristobal of San Sebastian College (HS) and  Jasper Marce of Sta. Rosa, Laguna (GS)
