Garcia upstages Tiu, bags Quick 8 crown
VANNI Garcia stole the spotlight from the favorites to capture the Quick 8 crown in the third and penultimate leg of the 2012 Philippine Drag Racing Championships Northern Series recently at Clark International Speedway.
In besting the multititled Jonathan Tiu in the finals, Garcia posted a time of 9.523 seconds that nearly shattered the Clark record of 9.223 owned by Pepi Santos.
Tiu settled for runner-up honors with a clocking of 9.887 seconds. Mark Galamay edged Edison Cayco for third place with a 10.781-second clip.
Article continues after this advertisementTiu struck in the M&H Super Pro class with a time of 11.581 seconds and turned back JCT-Blanche Racing teammate Walter Pazon and Galamay.
Teener Arvin Jay Millet bagged the M&H Pro crown over John Kalaw of H3 Autoworks and third placer Billy Pangandamun.
Millet’s brother Jannery copped the Yokohama Expert crown with a time of 13.912, beating Ben Pangandamun and Lennel Diaz.
