Blackwater ties Presto for worst losing streak in PBA history

MANILA, Philippines— Blackwater remains in search of a reprieve after its latest loss to NLEX, 90-73, in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup put the team on a historic losing streak.

The Bossing dropped their 18th straight game on Thursday, tying Presto for the longest losing streak in the league’s history.

The last time Nash Racela’s team tasted a victory was after beating the Road Warriors, 98-88, on October 17, 2020 in the All-Filipino Cup bubble. After that, they lost eight straight in that tournament then dropped 10 consecutive games this conference.

Presto, meanwhile, lost 18 straight in the 1980 season as it dropped nine straight in the second round of eliminations of the Open Conference and another nine in the first half of the All-Filipino Cup, the third conference of that year.

That team didn’t play in the Invitational Conference, the second of the three tournaments that season.

Blackwater’s run this season has been underwhelming at best having lost games at an average of 18.1 points.

Tts 71-62 loss to Rain or Shine on July 18 was its only defeat that wasn’t decided by more than 10 points.

The Bossing’s biggest loss, meanwhile, was a 103-77 beating it received from Alaska in the season opener.

They have a final chance this conference to end the miserable skid against playoff-seeking Meralco on Saturday.
