MANILA, Philippines—The PBA has fined Chris Newsome P20,000 after his ejection in Meralco’s game against NLEX in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup Wednesday,  league commissioner Willie Marcial said.

The Bolts won the game, 104-101.

Newsome was called for a flagrant foul 2 after getting into a scuffle with Anthony Semerad at the 10:38 mark of the fourth with the Bolts holding an 89-76 lead.

He, who will not serve suspension, exited the game with one rebound, one assist, and one steal on nearly eight minutes of play.

The absence of Newsome nearly cost the Bolts the game as their 101-82 lead midway through the fourth barely held on.

NLEX mounted a 19-2 run in the latter stages of the quarter to get to within two, 103-101, with 2.4 seconds after rookie Calvin Oftana lit up from deep.

Raymond Almazan icing the game for the Bolts from the stripe with 1.6 seconds left.

Meralco plays again on Thursday as the elimination round comes to a close.
