MANILA, Philippines—Sofia Frank is up for a tough climb ahead after she finished 22nd in the women’s short program of the Nebelhorn Trophy 2021 Friday (Manila time) at Eissporzentrum Oberstdorf in Oberstdorf, Germany.
The Nebelhorn Trophy is the final figure skating qualifier for the Winter Games.
The 15-year-old Frank performed to the tune of Donna Summer’s hit Last Dance and earned 47.65 points for her routine putting her in the middle part of the 37-woman field.
Frank will need to have a near-perfect performance come to the free skate if she plans to enter the top six of the women’s singles category and qualify for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
The United States’ Alysa Liu, a two-time national champion, finished first in the women’s short program with 70.86 points while Switzerland’s Alexia Paganini claimed second with 65.65 points and Belarus’ Viktoriia Safonova taking third with 62.02 points.
Edrian Celestino had a better showing in the men’s short program when he earned 64.32 points for 16th place in the 30-man field.
