MANILA, Philippines — With Omar Nino Romero behind, Brian Viloria is now looking forward to bigger fights ahead.
“Sunday was a great win for me. Finally I can close the chapter on the trilogy. Now I can look for better fights Tyson Marquez,” said WBO flyweight champion Brian Vloria during the PSA Forum at Shakey’s UN avenue Tuesday.
Viloria stopped Mexican rival Romero via TKO in the ninth round over the weekend before a frenzied crowd at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
“I was very confident. I knew I was the better fighter. I was stronger and quicker. I’m a much better fighter than the first time we met.” Viloria said.
Next on Viloria’s radar is a unification bout with the hard-hitting WBA champion Marquez of Mexico.
“I’ll come back to training camp. We just need to continue to work hard in the gym,” added Viloria. “You don’t really want to take a long time off. [I will fight] possibly August of September.”
The 31-year-old Viloria also has his sights set on following the footsteps of countrymen Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire Jr. in cracking the top ten pound-for-pound list.
“This stage of my career, I’m glad to say that I’m still learning, still improving in my craft, still growing as a fighter and still coming into my own,” said Viloria.
