MANILA, Philippines — In hopes of turning its fortunes around, Blackwater acquired Rashawn McCarthy from Terrafirma for Simon Enciso in a one-on-one deal approved by the PBA on Tuesday.
The roster change for the Bossing comes just 10 days after their 0-11 campaign in the 2021 Philippine Cup.
Blackwater, which is on a 19-game losing skid—the most in PBA history—dating back to last season, has already tapped a new coach in Ariel Vanguardia last September 19.
Vanguardia, who also serves as the team’s alternate governor, replaced Nash Racela.
McCarthy averaged 9.7, 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists, playing a key role for Terrafirma, which just missed the playoffs due to an inferior quotient.
The Dyip finished tied with Barangay Ginebra and Phoenix in eighth place with similar 4-7 slates but lost the numbers game as the Gin Kings and the Fuel Masters earned the right to dispute the last quarterfinals ticket.
Ginebra claimed No. 8 after beating Phoenix in a playoff.
Enciso, who will be playing for his sixth PBA franchise since being drafted in the second round in 2015, averaged a career-best 13.7 points per game in his only conference with Blackwater.
McCarthy, 32, won two championships as a reserve with San Miguel Beer before he was traded to Kia in 2017.
