MANILA, Philippines—Team Rebisco fell to Kazakhstan’s Altay,  25-23, 25-13, 25-17, on the opening day of the 2021 AVC Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship Friday at Terminal 21 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

The Philippine selection’s stand had a strong start but slowly lost steam as the undermanned team didn’t have skipper Aby Maraño, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Eya Laure, and Ivy Lacsina who are still serving health and safety protocols.

Taking the spot of the four are Mary Joy Baron and Kianna Dy who were transferred from Team Choco Mucho.

Rebisco had a solid start in the third set taking a 6-5 lead but Altay proved to be too much for the young squad with Irina Kenzhebayeva ending the affair with crosscourt kill.

Team Rebisco will try to avenge its loss when it takes on Thailand’s Supreme Chonburi in Pool B on Friday at 4:30 pm (Manila time).

Earlier, Choco Mucho also lost in straight sets.
