MANILA, Philippines—Filipino speed skater Julian Macaraeg has wrapped up his campaign after bowing out of the men’s 1000-meter of the ISU World Cup Short Track at Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing, China Thursday.

Macaraeg clocked in at 1:27.803 to finish at a respectable third in Heat 10 of the preliminaries but only the top two in his cluster would advance to the main round of the competition.

His finish, however, wasn’t enough for him as placed outside of the six fastest third placers in the heats.

The 18-year-old also bowed out in the men’s 500-meter course with a time of 1:06.351 for last place in Heat 9.

Macaraeg was also elminated in the 1500m as he finished sixth in Heat 4 with a time of 2:27.362.

Only the top two and six fastest third placers will enter the main heats of the competition.

Macaraeg will have to finish in the top 32 of the 500m and 1000m events and the top 36 of the 1500m at the end of the World Cup to qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics, which will also be held in Beijing.
